Artist Bio

The Front Door "It is my goal to find a place where art meets craft, a place   where I use traditional techniques to make a contemporary   piece. A piece which is designed finely enough to be called   art and built with the fine skill to be appreciated for its'   craftsmanship."

Larry Roofner builds his doors the same way they were built by   18th and 19th century craftsmen; one at a time and by hand,   using mortise-and-tenon joinery for strength and durability. He   takes pride in his use of materials. For instance exotic woods   are hand picked to match color and grain. Mouth-blown   antique glass from Germany (Lambert) and deep custom   bevels are used for brilliance. For over 30 years Larry was a   woodworker and glass artist building one of a kind furniture   and glass pieces for his family and friends. A life changing   experience produced a marriage of these two interests. To   further refine his skills, Larry did a three-year apprenticeship   building doors with the respected teacher and German   master wood-worker, Karl Kalamaja.

All of Larry Roofner's doors are unique. Please visit the "Door Catalog" page for a complete    listing with pictures on Larry's unique design concepts, the work Larry does and the range of    styles that are possible. Larry keeps an open mind and welcome opportunities to explore new    design ideas with his clients. Larry believes that his doors can excite the viewer while fulfilling    their function. Larry's work has been the subject of articles in both arts and interior design    magazines.
